ps katie and lauren finally started a blog about corporate facebook pages for restaurants aka THE WEIRDEST PLACE ON THE INTERNET.

BUT he will let the restaurant pay you 25 cents an hour (or less!), sooooo… oh and you won’t have any rights to breaks, or maximum number of hours in a shift, oh and he’s against food regulations so maybe the kitchen you work in will be riddled with unsafe raw food and bacteria, and your boss can fire you for whatever reason they want, and naturally you won’t get any benefits (not like servers get them now, to be fair), but hey ALL OF THE TIPS!

Speaking at a conference this week - Jack Gerard - the head of the American Petroleum Institute - which is the nation’s largest lobbying organization for oil and gas corporations - told President Obama, “I think it would be a huge mistake on the part of the president of the United States to deny the construction of the Keystone XL pipeline…Clearly, the Keystone XL pipeline is in the national interest. A determination to decide anything less than that I believe will have huge political consequences.” Do what the oil barons say - build the damn pipeline - or suffer “huge political consequences.” The sad part is - in today’s post Citizens United world - we have to take these threats seriously

Finally, an in-depth analysis of that damned pipeline. I’d love to see this independently fact-checked, but this guy makes a convincing argument. The fuckery continues. :/

I volunteered at the Salvation Army center around here a couple years ago, helping families pick out toys. It was really fun and I thought I was doing a good thing until two men came in. They were in poor shape, they wore a lot of layers and their jackets and pants had dirt and dust on them. I think they had been sleeping outside. They were coming in to get food from the kitchen, and one of the staff members took them to another room that wasn’t the kitchen. After a while, they were both escorted out of the building. I learned later that day they were kicked out because the staff speculated they were a gay couple and didn’t want to cater to those kind of people.

I can’t even look at the bellringers without being ashamed of them. They help a lot of people, but I don’t want to contribute to a group that still considers homosexuality to be condemnatory.
